We need your help
We
are asking for help in completing Luis and Letti's home. We are in need
of building materials and plumbing and electrical supplies. We very much
need donations of funds to help purchase materials and pay for labor.
Excavation
and removal of the trash and dirt from the building site
Labor and truck rental 8600 pesos (Completed)
Backup Water Supply
The water supply will be from a 100-gallon
plastic cistern (traditionally made of adobe) called a Tinaco, which
will sit on the roof to supply a backup source of water. I already have
an electric water pump I'll give them to aid in sending the low pressure
village water supply to the Tinaco on the roof. The water in the Tinaco
will then be gravity fed to the house when the village supply is turned
off. The Tinaco and plumbing will cost around $2240 pesos ($208.00 US).
It's a lot of money by Mexican standards, but by installing the Tinaco water storage on the
roof, the children will be assured of a bath at night even when the village
supply is turned off. Luis and Letti have never owned a Tinaco.
UPDATE: Charley Craven has donated a Tinaco. Thank you, Charley!!!!
The Tinaco is made of black PVC and the
blazing sun here will warm the stored water a bit for bathing. I will
purchase and install a small propane fired water heater, but since the propane
will be a cost issue for them, I will assist them in purchasing propane
through out the year. Luis and
Letti have never owned a water heater and the idea of buying propane for
it scares them. She often cooks outside on a wood fire to save the
propane for use in her single propane burner in her kitchen on rainy
days. How spoiled we all are in comparison.
They will also need... a
small stove to replace their 20-year-old single propane burner, it's exposed
flames are dangerous when in use around the children.
UPDATE: A stove and oven has been donated by Abraham and
Haide Sanches. This is such a blessing to Letti. She has never owned
a stove with an oven. She wept when we delivered it to her new house.
A small
refrigerator is needed as their old one quit working years ago. Instead
of the bare bulbs hanging from sockets on extension cords they currently
use, we'll install four basic ceiling light fixtures through out the
house, plus
an electrical breaker, correct wiring, and grounded outlets.
UPDATE: A refrigerator has been donated by Al and Kathy
Jones.
A traditional Mexican kitchen
counter top and cabinets will be built into the structure out of cement,
with a curtain to be used as doors... all done by the builder. Later, my
wife plans to purchase, and have installed, tile for the kitchen counter top. Glory
to God! Al and Kathy Jones have purchased a new energy efficient
refrigerator for Luis and Letti. Kathy wanted the kitchen to be
"special for Letti" so in addition she and Al have donated the
tiles for the kitchen counter and floor, plus they graciously paid a
week's salary for Senor Joel and for the labor to install the tile work.
Thank you my friends!
The tile work is not only beautiful, but also will keep
moisture from seeping through the cement floors from the earth
underneath. The smooth surface of the tile will be very functional in
aiding Letti in her house work, versus mopping raw concrete floors. Her
current floors in their old house are uneven packed mud and rock. Letti has never lived in a house with tiled floors, only packed mud and
rock.
